The TOP 5 Sugar Cookies in Omaha

The TOP 5 Sugar Cookies in Omaha
Omaha's Best Cookie

Happy National Sugar Cookie Day! We thought it would be fun to feature the TOP 5 Sugar Cookies in the Omaha metro area.

No matter where you’re from, we’re sure that sugar cookies were a frequent element of the dessert line-up. From grandma’s special recipe to those frosted sugar cookies from the grocery store, everyone has a personal opinion on who has the best sugar cookie. Nebraska’s sugar cookie scene is different, though. In 1982, a young woman began baking sugar cookies out of her home and delivered them to local gas stations. What turned out to be Eilieen’s Cookies is now in 11 states throughout the country. Eileen’s have been a staple of Christmas office parties and family gatherings for the last 25 years in the Omaha area. Those cookies have skewed our perception of what a great sugar cookie really tastes like. Don’t get us wrong, we’ve consumed an obscene number of cookies from Eileen’s over the years but what we’ve been searching for is a GREAT sugar cookie.

Cookies are so simple that it’s hard to imagine any one bakery making them better than everyone else. However, we think it’s the simplicity that makes it so obvious when a certain cookie really is the best around. We took to the streets and reviewed sugar cookies from the following Omaha cookie shops or bakeries and this is what we found. We believe one sugar cookie stands above the rest in Omaha.

Prepare your taste-buds because here is a list of the TOP 5 Sugar Cookies in Omaha.

Baked After Dark #1

Top 5 Sugar Cookies in OmahaNestled in the heart of Benson at 61st and Maple Street, Baked After Dark is different. As the name implies, Baked After Dark, doesn’t open until 6:00 pm. They are typically open until 10:00 pm during the week and 1:00 am on the weekend. Their frosted sugar cookies are a throwback in time to the grittiness of what we believe cookies used to be in the good old days. These sugar cookies are the perfect balance between chewy in the middle and a little crunchy on the outside. Their frosting is hard to describe and was an unfamiliar taste which made it all the more intriguing to our cookies samplers. Baked After Dark often adds sprinkles to their cookies which is sinful in our book so we requested to sample the cookies without the sprinkles. These are, hands down, the best sugar cookies in the Omaha metro area.

Carson’s Cookie Fix #2

Located near 114th Dodge, Carson’s Cookie Fix has really improved their cookie game and ship cookies throughout the country. They are currently listed at the number 1 cookie destination in Omaha by Yelp and often boast about their award winning Caramel Chocolate Chip Cookie. Their sugar cookie is often not frosted. Fear not, the helpful Cookie Fix team is happy to frost them individually for you. Their sugar cookie is a solid #2 ranking in Omaha. If we’re talking Salted Caramel or Caramel Chocolate Chip, then the #1 spot would go to Carson’s.

The Cookie Company #3

Located inside the Westroads Mall. A staple of the Omaha community for the last 35 years and regularly recognized as one of the best cookies in Omaha. We only wish The Cookie Company had an easy to access retail location in the Omaha metro area.

Sweet Magnolia’s Bake Shop #4

The cutest little bake shop in Omaha. Sweet Magnolia’s is located next to Lisa’s Radial Cafe in the historic Cathedral neighborhood. You won’t find anything unpleasant about their baked goods or cookie offerings. This shop knows their baking science like nobody else in Omaha and their artistry isn’t far behind either. Sweet Magnolia’s is a solid choice for the #4 Sugar Cookie in Omaha.

The Omaha Bakery #5

The Omaha Bakery continues to rack up awards and accolades locally, regionally, and nationally. Known for their award winning cakes, feature stories in magazines, newspapers, Shark Tank and The Food Network. The Omaha Bakery uses a 125 year old recipe for their sugar cookies. It’s a solid cookie but not comparable to what we sampled at Baked After Dark.

The Omaha Cookie scene is changing quickly in Omaha. Farmers Markets, pop ups and online ordering have given rise to a whole new creative bunch. Be on the lookout for two new cookie stores to open in Omaha over the next 3-6 months and one Omaha cookie shop to change ownership.

Do you make an amazing cookie? We would love to hear about it!
